Dunsmuir Middle School is a grade 6-8 Middle School. It is located in the fast-growing area of the Westshore, more specifically, in the municipality of Colwood. Over the last 5 or so years, the school has grown from 700 students to 920 students. It is a large, dynamic Middle School. Due to the construction and anticipated completion of a new Middle School, Dunsmuir is projected to settle around 700 students for the 2022-2023 school year. The shrinking of the school, will bring with it opportunities to review the DMS values and culture as we strive to continue to be the best Middle School we can be. This work will be done with the school community. The DMS values are: Honesty, Kindness and Respect and will be up for review and possible adjustments/additions next school year. We are a neighbourhood school, with around 450 students who take the school bus to and from school each day. We offer a robust Band program as well as Soccer and Dance Academy programs in addition to the regular Ministry of Education mandated curriculum. In addition to the aforementioned MoE mandated curriculum, DMS offers diverse and robust sports and clubs programs, including cultural opportunities, such as a Drumming Club. Other opportunities range from a Volleyball to Tea Club and Rugby to Robotics, with many, many offerings in between. A student run TV station and news program organizes and records the Dunsmuir Daily each day, which is viewed by every class during nutrition and serves as the primary delivery mechanism of traditional school announcements. As a part of the Applied Design Skills and Technology and Arts Education Rotation, students will have opportunities to explore: music, woodshop, drafting, textiles, foods and nutrition, drama to name just a few in their time at Dunsmuir Middle School. Dunsmuir Middle School strives to be a place WHERE EVERYONE BELONGS: A school that honours, values and celebrates: diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.
