Sooke School District is committed to student and staff wellness, and to fostering safe, caring and healthy school environments.  Positive health promotion is embedded through all aspects of education from leadership to universal and targeted supports as it is in the curriculum. The following roles assist this work within our district and schools.

School-Based Counsellors

Support individual, group, and class work to meet the school's intervention and prevention needs. School Counsellors do many things within the school, including counselling, supporting referrals, consulting and collaborating with school and community teams, and providing support around academics and post secondary opportunities.

Student Engagement Facilitators (SEF)

Support student engagement within the school, helping students build self-regulation skills and fostering meaningful participation in learning activities within the classroom.

Student Advocates (SA)

Support students who are disengaged from school or on the road to disengagement, with the intent of exploring community resources, school supports, and opportunities to support student pathways.

School-Based Social Workers (SBSW)

Focus on providing services supporting emotional/social/behaviour or parenting supports that lead to successful school participation, while assisting with inter-ministry supports with the goal of meeting student's educational goals.

School-Based Child Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Worker

Provides a mental health perspective in school meetings and interactions, in addition to early intervention mental health services, and referrals to multi-disciplinary health and/or community mental health services.
